Catena 2004 Chardonnay - $16.99

Vineyards
The grapes for this Argentinean Chardonnay are sourced from the Uxmal and Adrianna vineyards in the Agrelo District of Mendoza, as well as in the Domingo vineyard in the Tupungato District. The Agrelo District (3100 ft.) and the Tupungato District (5000 ft.) enjoy warm sunny days that allow for full and even ripening, and cool nights for an excellent balance between acidity and sugar. All year round the vineyard is managed with modern pruning and trellising techniques. Vertical trellising, pre-harvest cluster removal, vine-to-vine canopy management and controlled irrigation are used in the vineyards to grow Chardonnay fruit that gives opulent flavors.

Tasting Notes
The nose offers white stone and citrus fruit aromas interwoven with light notes of vanilla and slate. The mouthfeel is full and clean with pear and fig fruit flavors and a touch of sweet spice. The finish is fresh yet persistent, with bright, crisp acidity.

Domaine Matrot 2003 Bourgogne Chardonnay - $16.99

To produce this wine, we used the same ‘barrel-centric' winemaking that has always been employed by the top Burgundy producers. Following a gentle, whole-cluster pressing to separate the juice from the skins as quickly as possible, the juice was transferred to small French oak barrels, of which 25% were new, medium-toast, Vosges- and Allier-origin wood. After undergoing primary and malolactic fermentations, the lees of the wines were stirred every two weeks to add complexity. Sur lie aging for 15 months allowed the Chardonnay and oak flavors to meld, and for the oak tannins to elongate, thereby softening and rounding the wine. After being racked from barrel, the wine was bottled on August 30, 2004.

French oak. The wine holds layers of complex, yet focused flavors of citrus and minerals, beautifully balanced acidity, and a long, smooth finish. The oak flavors and mild tannins are perfectly poised.

Dynamite 2004 Mendonico County Chardonnay - $12.74

Franciscan 2004 Chardonnay - $16.99

This wine showcases the generous Chardonnay fruit from Napa Valley vineyards. Rich, ripe and exotic, it strikes a balance of ripe Napa Valley fruit with nuances of sweet oak from 100% barrel fermentation and extended barrel age. Use of wild yeast in a portion of the fermentation and sur lie aging adds layers of complexity. Notes of peach, pear and apple combined with hints of tropical aromas and toasted nuttiness. Lively and lengthy on the palate with a great body and structure. Mineral notes linger and the finish is crisp, creamy and clean with apple and citrus flavors.

Hahn Estate 2004 Chardonnay - $11.89

The wine starts with apricot, citrus, and hazelnut scented aromas. Packed with ultra-ripe flavors of pear, peach, and nectarine, the wine maintains a lush silky texture throughout that continues into an added dimension of fig and vanilla. A very firm core of acidity suspends the mouthwatering mineral finish for extra length. This is a robust Chardonnay that will pair with a substantial range of foods and satisfy the palates of most red wine drinkers.

This is an excellent wine to pair with heavier fish like salmon or swordfish. The acid will help cut through the oils and the stone fruit character will enhance the rich flavors of the fish.

Madison Ridge 2004 Chardonnay - $12.74

A complex nose with ripe peach aromas and lovely malo notes extends on to the palate of this fruit driven wine finishing soft, crisp and clean. St. Clement 2004 Carneros Chardonnay - $16.99

Winemaker's Comments
Summer melon notes of cantaloupe and honeydew with subtle hints of buttery vanilla unleash in the nose with one swirl. A beautifully balanced and creamy entry filled with lemon, orange zest and floral notes leads the palate into layers of stone fruits, hints of mineral and undertones of smoky oak.Typical of most Chardonnays from the cool Carneros region, there is good acidity to this wine that lures the palate away from the weight, leaving the finish with a refreshing citrus character.

Cellar Notes
The 2004 Chardonnay once again delivers beautiful, exotic, rich fruit aromas and flavors with crisp, clean acidity you expect to find in fruit from the Carneros region. Early summer brought mild and dry conditions that led to a late August/early September hot spell with hot, dry off-shore evening winds, bringing harvest quickly upon us.We source our Carneros Chardonnay from two vineyards – Stanly Ranch and the highly acclaimed Abbott's Vineyard. Hand-harvested fruit arrived for whole berry pressing prior to fermentation. We employ traditional Burgundian winemaking techniques of barrel fermentation and barrel aging for approximately 10 months in 100% French oak (35% new). The wine was aged on the lees, stirred monthly to give creamy, full-bodied flavors and encouraged to undergo malolactic fermentation – which it did at 100%.

Lugana

Ca' de' Rocchi 2004 Lugana - $12.74

LUGANA D.O.C. was one of the very first Italian wines in 1967 to be recognized with Controlled Designation of Origin. Its disciplinary of production establishes that 90 percent of grapes for Lugana must come from Trebbiano grapes, and no aromatic grapes are allowed into its wine-making.

The color of this white wine is pale yellow with slight greenish shadows which come to golden after aging. Its perfume has bright notes of peach and green apple and blended together with a touch of oak giving it a subtle cinnamon and lively finish. Pretty wine with complex character!

Portugal 's best loved Vinho Verde.  Refreshing, crisp with a tingly sparkle taste of apple tartness from the cool and luscious Vinho Verde DOC region north eastern Portugal , Fâmega Vinho Verde has a delicate citrus flavor like the fragrance of a Summer garden.

Pleasant and mellow, this young white wine will be the perfect accompaniment to all kinds of seafood, salads, mild cheeses, as an aperitif or just by itself.  The alcohol content of Fãmega is 9.5% which makes it the ideal natural low calorie white wine.  The grapes used in making Fâmega are 100% Alvarinho (same as the Albarino grape over the border in northwest Spain.

Pinot Grigio

Ca' de' Rocchi 2004 Pinot Grigio - $14.44

The Italians call it Pinot Grigio. The French call it Pinot Gris. In the United States , folks are calling it the hottest emerging wine varietal since Merlot. The thing is there are so many styles: from lean and racy to sweeter and rich. The Ca' de' Rocchi is a perfect PG….it's all about balance! This one is minerally with a stoney character that blends so nicely with the lemon zest and slight banana nose. It doesn't see any oak at all and makes a point to let your palate know that with its clean acidity and freshness. It goes great with clams, mussels, white fish, poultry, salads and for just hanging out with friends.

Mac Murray 2004 Pinot Gris, California - $16.99

Rich aromas of white peach, honeydew melon, and fig are the stars of this wine, with notes of honey and spice adding both weight and interest. The flavors of peach, melon, and fig are melded together in a rich core, while elements of spice and citrus give focus. The result is a mouthfeel that is rich and broad without being heavy. It is a Pinot Gris that reflects the legacy of the land while exquisitely capturing the terroir of the Russian River Valley.

Maso Canali 2004 Pinot Grigio, Italy - $19.54

This wine originated on the 17-acre, family-owned Maso Canali Vineyard in Trentino. The Canali family has lived on the estate for 500 years, and has been planting Pinot Grigio grapes there since 1893. The fruit for the 2004 vintage was drawn from this estate and other carefully chosen sources in the premier growing region of Trentino.

To intensify the tropical characteristics of the wine, 7% of the juice is from late-harvest Pinot Grigio grapes that were dried on racks, vinified separately, and added to the final blend. This time-intensive “Passito” process is employed to give the wine its unique body and tropical fruit flavor. Finally, the wine was cold stabilized, filtered and bottled to retain the crisp, fruity characteristics of the wine and to avoid malolactic fermentation. The nose delivers peach and a surprising hint of honey, and the wine is characterized by enticing tropical flavors of apricot, lemon and pineapple, with floral notes. It is well-balanced with a lovely, persistent finish.

Moletto 2005 Pinot Grigio ~ $12.74

A great buy in Grigio. Don't be put off by a slight hint of copper in the wine's color. The aromas and flavors are fresh and filled with apples, pears and almonds. Picks up hints of anise on the surprisingly persistent finish.

WINEMAKING: The different grape varieties were hand picked between the last week of February and the first three weeks of March. The grapes were destemmed and pressed in a pneumatic press. The juice remained on the skins for an average of 6 hours before being gently extracted at low pressure and statically decanted in stainless steel tanks until a limpidity between 100 and 250 NTU is obtained. The clean must is then transferred to a fermentation tank and inoculated with selected yeasts to highlight the natural aromas of the grape. Alcoholic fermentation took place at 14°–16ºC (57°–61°F) and allowed to remain in the tanks with carbonic gas and daily lees stirring for an additional ten days. The finished wine was stabilized for proteins and tartaric acid, filtered, and bottled.
