Tuscan Treasures!
Carpineto takes its name from the Greek - Carpos, meaning fruit. The modern day winery was founded in 1967. Since then, the partnership between cofounders Giovanni Carlo Sacchet and Antonio Mario Zaccheo has developed an award winning, international reputation for consistently elegant wines with unmatched intensity and extract.
The four Carpineto estates encompass 424 hectares of land spread among Tuscany's most prestigious appellations. From the heart of the Chianti Classico region to their extensive Vino Nobile holdings in Montepulciano, Carpineto has garnered a strong global following fueled by their unique combination of traditional and innovative winemaking. Carpineto was the first Italian winery to receive the Robert Mondavi Trophy for excellence and has been nominated Best Italian Wine Producer at the 34th International Wine and Spirits Competition.

Carpineto 2006 Dogajolo ~ $12.74 (Regularly Priced at $14.99)
"Dogajolo" is the creation of Dr. Giovanni Carlo Sacchet, the first and only Italian enologist to have won the Robert Mondavi Trophy as the world's outstanding winemaker. A very innovative product, Dogajolo is a young Super-Tuscan made from Sangiovese grapes with a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon. The name Dogajolo comes from “doga”, meaning wood stave, since the wine finishes its fermentation process in new wood barrels where it is aged for a total of 6 months.
Dogajolo has a deep, vivid, ruby to purple color and a fragrant bouquet of cherries and herbs, accented by hints of vanilla and coffee. The taste is ample yet soft on the palate, complex and well developed.
Given its fruitiness, Dogajolo can be paired with first courses and white meats, but shows best with full-flavored dishes such as roasts, grilled meats, salami, and Tuscan regional specialties.

Carpineto 2005 Chianti Classico ~ $16.99 (Regularly Priced at $19.99)
The Chianti Classico region is in the beautiful olive and cypress-studded countryside between Florence and Siena. Chianti Classico is produced exclusively in this charming area. Made from 90% Sangiovese and 10% Canaiolo grapes, only the finest fruit is selected from the Carpineto estate vineyards in Dudda for Chianti Classico. The wine derives its rich color and flavor from maceration of the skins in the must and fermentation at a controlled, low temperature. It is aged in oak casks for a minimum of 6 months and then bottle aged for a minimum of 4-6 months before release. One of Tuscany's outstanding values, Carpineto Chianti Classico is comparable in size and style to many Riservas.
Enjoy the Chianti Classico with lamb or beef stews, liver pate, pasta with meat sauces, and grilled red meats and game.

Carpineto 2004 Chianti Classico Riserva ~ $25.49 (Regularly Priced at $29.99)
Chianti Classico Riserva is made with 100% Sangiovese grapes produced from excellent, dry farmed hillside vineyards. The wine is fermented at a controlled, low temperature, oak aged in Slavonian and French cooperage for more than one year, then bottle aged for at least 10 months before release. Carpineto typically ages its wines longer than required by DOCG regulations. The rich grapes benefit from the extra aging, giving a wine of regal bearing and pronounced character. The bouquet is elegant, harmonious and persistent with raspberry and vanilla overtones. The flavor is full and velvety with a long, persistent finish. This wine will reward extensive cellaring.
An intense, brilliant ruby hue with garnet reflections, and a complex, persistent bouquet with nuances of vanilla and raspberries. Warm, velvety flavor, full and generous with a long, rich finish.
Wine Spectator: 86
2003 - Berry and cherry character, with light vanilla. Medium-bodied, with a fresh finish. Drink now. 1,700 cases made. (JS)
